Marilyn Update

Filed under: PolenBabble, PolenNews — Twin C @ 12:05 pm

Marilyn is in an oxygen tent at the animal hospital. She’s definitely having trouble breathing, and the vet doesn’t know why yet. They’re going to hook her up to an IV and catherter and take some X-rays in order to determine the problem, and then they’ll call PSB to give us the report.

I felt absolutely horribly leaving her there - she looked very sad in the tent, and she doesn’t travel well so that upset her to begin with. I’m also a little scared that I won’t see her alive again. Hopefully that’s not the case, but she is really old (almost 18) so we can’t expect her to live forever. I just hate that she’s there alone, and since she’s deaf she’s probably even more confused.

Fortunately, the vet has very late visiting hours. PSB and I have tickets to The Vertical Hour tonight, and then we’ll go see her. Since I came in so late, I won’t be able to make it before the show, but PSB may go this afternoon too.

The other sucky thing about the situation is that it’s really really expensive, but there’s no way we’d not pay. . . I’m just going to be eating her cat food for a little while until it’s paid off.

Please send her good vibes. Thanks.

2ND UPDATE: Just heard from PSB. It looks like it may be a heart issue, but they need to run some more tests. There was an excess of fluid between her heart and her lungs, which the vet removed. It was clear, which hopefully was a good sign. She’s sedated and breathing better (but not back to normal) and even ate a little. They want to move her out of the ICU and into Internal Medicine. We’re waiting to hear how much more the tests are going to cost.

3RD UPDATE: All tests seem to point to heart disease, which is good. We should be able to put her on medication that will work for a while, but we may have to take her in once or twice more to have the fluid removed from between her heart and lungs again, and apparently the medicine will stop working eventually. But for now, it seems good. We should even be able to take her home tomorrow, which will make me very happy.

  1. oh dear. having a sick cat is so scary (i was nearly out of my mind when one of mine had
a “mystery near-fatal fever” a few years back). i will definitely be thinking pro-marilyn
thoughts and hoping for the best.
