Aspen Ticket Purchased

Filed under: PolenBabble, PolenNews — Twin C @ 5:36 pm

The Moth has been asked back to Aspen this year, and once again I am lucky enough to be able to tag along. I got to go with them two years ago, and at the time I was very hesitant to puchase an $800 flight, so instead I flew in and out of Denver and took a van from Denver to Aspen. Four hours each way. It blew, but it was worth it - I had an amazing time at the festival. I took care of the Moth girls when they needed a gopher, and they took me to parties and got me into shows, and I got to see Kung Fu Hustle before it got released to the public.

This year, once I found out I had the green light to go, I didn’t want to take the van, and figured I was going to have to suck it up big time. As it turns out, however, it was bad, but not atrocious. It was $510 round trip, and I fly out of LaGuardia (but back into Newark), thanks to some random sale United was having. . .

As I remarked to PSB a few minutes ago, who would have ever thought I’d be excited about a $500 flight? Regardless, I’m psyched.

  1. If you have a chance, check out my friend Brendan Hunt’s show, I believe titled “Five Years in Amsterdam.” He’s hilarious, but it also happens to be about Peter’s brother’s comedy theater in A’dam…where, long, long ago, I worked.

  2. Those of us in the Amtrak-based community can scarcely believe there’s market enough for a damn airport to even exist in those mountains….. never mind that one of our own peers sees fit to fly to it. Holy damn, Joshua, I am awed & terrified………………….. Air travel measured per trip is the second most dangerous form of transport on Earth, after motorcycles & excluding “by cannon.” Did you know that? The industry tries to hide. “Don’t worry, the little plastic cups will drop in the event of depressurization……….” No, because the captain will be dead so fast of those hateful bends u get when going from the equivalent of 10K feet’s pressure to 36K feet’s in 20 seconds that he won’t have time to press the button, man. Is there is a button? I supposed it’s automatic. Anyhow I remain stuck in CA because after taking the train out here I was reminded that it kind of sucks to cross the country on something that wobbles back and forth for, like, 41 hours, because train travel is the terrestial equivalent of nautical travel which as you know is ALSO out. Stuck. I don’t know how I’m getting back yet I must escape the Southland fast because, last night at this shindig in Hollywood, the girl who starred in “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (yup!) pronounced ‘Proust,’ not seconds after I met her, so as to rhyme with ‘joust…..’ oh god oh god
