The Great Monitor Exchange

Filed under: HA!, PolenBabble — Twin C @ 8:36 pm

My new monitor arrived last night - free one day shipping is a beautiful thing.  Jon was home to receive it too, which was great timing.  So I began the process of swapping out The Behemoth:

I’M SO BIG!!! HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR!!!!!

As you can see, it takes up a lot of room.  It’s surrounded by all sorts of assorted crap.  Just for the record, that’s not a little container of lotion for use during internet pr0n bouts.  It’s sunscreen from my megahyperglobal pharma company that I never managed to put away in the bathroom.  The pr0n lotion is behind it.

I gave The Behemoth its last glimpse of the intarwebs, and then powered down.

Nighty night, gentle monster.

Next came the ugly part - getting behind the computer cabinet and moving the mother out.  When I first installed it, I had to cut open the back of the armoire to make it fit. It’s not pretty back there now.

Dude, I am so trashed.

I don’t think I’ve ever weighed it, so tonight when it was out I weighed myself, then myself holding it.  Behemoth Weight: 72 pounds.  Also known as: a nine year old child.  Or a golden retriever.  Or two and a third cinder blocks.  Etc. etc.

I tried to do a few size comparisons with a little rubber duckie.  The second one cracks me up for some reason.

Size Comparison #1     Size Comparison #2

The new monitor, still in the box, already wanted to assert its dominance:

Who’s your daddy???

After a quick vaccuuming of the area where The Behemoth was, as well as the inside of my computer (pretty dusty!), I took the new monitor out, and took a shot of the two of them to compare screen sizes:

New vs. Old

I also did a very rough measure - essentially, I’m losing a little bit of height, but gaining a good amount of width.  (Hmmm, sounds like some sort of weird ED commercial.)

I got the new monitor in, hooked her up, and turned on my computer, where I made a very unhappy discovery - my computer is so old, I couldn’t set it to the recommended display size!  Everything else I set it for looked kinda like crap.  Fortunately, after a few minutes of googling, I found a driver to update my video card (when I first went to the card’s website, I couldn’t find ANYTHING on it - they’re generations ahead at this point.  Good thing I’m getting a new computer soon!), got my computer to recognize the new monitor, rebooted, and. . . it could find the setting!

And now, my new monitor in action. . .

Tada! Who’s so handsome and sleek?

I don’t know why it looks all curved in the picture - it’s not that big!

So the question now is, um, does anyone want The Behemoth?  It still works pretty well.  I’ll give it to you for free.  You just have to come and get it.

UPDATE: Lem has claimed The Behemoth!  I warned him how fucking heavy it is and he wants it anyway. . .

2ND UPDATE: Lem changed his mind, and I haven’t heard from anyone else, so it’s now on Craig’s List: http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/zip/578717036.html

  3. I’m not getting any bites, though. I think people are intimidated. Not that I can blame them.
