Stupid Technology.

Filed under: PolenBabble, Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 9:15 am

Friday night I was going to have a few people over for a little Guitar Hero - one friend arrived early, and we figured we’d start rocking and let our other friend catch up when he got here.  However, we ran into a little bit of a problem.  My PS2 decided it didn’t want to work anymore - the disc reader stopped reading, or even spinning the disc.

After some brief deliberation, some price checking, and some musing about buying a PS3, I decided the only course of action was just to buy a new PS2.  I still have lots of games I enjoy playing on it, and lots of games I own for it that I still have yet to play.  I ended up using the rest of my “free money” on it - I had just enough money left over after buying the bed and a few other smaller things. . .

Anyone want a broken PS2?  I’ll bet someone with smarts could fix it. . .

Some internet fun

First, another great story about a clever bird.

Then, for all you liberals out there, some very funny snark from DailyKos.

I’ll add to this if I find anything else. . .

From the world of online poker,

Filed under: PolenPoker, PolenBabble — Twin C @ 2:55 pm

a fantastic post about the blatant cheating that went on last year/earlier this year on two sites.

I have money on Ultimate Bet, and it’s the only site I have rakeback on (the sites take a small amount from each pot, the rake - any pots I win and they take money from, I get some of it back).  It’s the first site I played on as well, so it holds a special place in my heart.  I obviously don’t play anywhere near the level that all this went on, but it’s still really messed up, and everyone is still waiting for a reasonable resolution.  Looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer.

This is too cute.

Who wouldn’t want a pet hippo?

Hat tip to Leslie, who sent this to me.

My nads hurt.

I can’t remember if I blogged about it, but as part of Administrative Professional’s Week, we were given a crossword puzzle to fill out.  It was basically an extended commercial for this training company which runs a zillion different classses for admins, most of which kind of suck, and the rest REALLY suck.  You had to go on their website and search page after page to find stupid little facts about each class, or specific wording, to fill in the crossword.  It was horribly constructed as well - it was like a crossword puzzle for five year olds, with words only intersecting other words in one place, over and over.  I haven’t worked on the NYT Sunday puzzle in a really long time, but they were always fun, even if I could only fill in a tenth of the answers.  The only reason I filled this one out was because there were prizes, one of which was an iPod Nano, and as PSB’s is giving her some problems, I wanted to try and win her a new one.

Apparently the winners were announced this morning.  I didn’t win anything and I didn’t get an e-mail about it.  I only know because the fucking horrible obnoxious twathead woman who sits on the other side of my cube was one of the winners.  As if I needed another reason to hate her.  The woman who sits next to me won as well, but I’m happy for her, as well as some other admin on the floor.  But not me.  Sorry, PSB.  If I could kill the bitch and take her prize, I would.

UPDATE:  It turns out the horrible bitch did not win an iPod, she won a $50 AmEx gift certificate.  I’d still kill her and take it.

Twin C’s Adventures in Office Botany, Part whatever

I picked up a peace lilly in the office a while back.  By “pick up”, I actually mean “rescue from being abandoned by everyone since the girl who used to take care of it (barely) just got fired because she picked fights with the really crazy and very vindictive head admin instead of just doing as she was told”.  (Office politics are AWESOME!)  I don’t know why they are called peace lillies, because they are cranky and finicky.  (Perhaps I relate to them.)

If plants could grumble, this plant would be grumbling.

Allow me to point out the crankiness, in the form of leaves that turn yellow and die no matter what I do.  Lots of water?  Leaves die.  Not much water?  Leaves die.  No matter what level of light.  I should be singing “Grow For Me” to it.

See? I told you.

But, if you’ll look again, perhaps I’m being given a peace offering?  (ha ha ha I is funny)

Very interesting flower!

I tried to get a close up to show the texture of the inside - it looks kind of like a mace - but my camera phone is teh suxor.

I have the feeling if it could use it like a mace, it would.

On a separate note, here’s a shot of my new orchid along with my old orchid, which I just convinced to bloom.

I wish they would sing “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space” to me. That would rule.

Tickets Purchased!

Filed under: Globetrotting Elititude, PolenNews — Twin C @ 10:33 pm

It’s official - PSB and I are off to Turkey for two weeks!  We leave the day after my birthday.  Actually, I leave the day after my birthday - we’re going to be flying separately, as The Moth will be organizing and running a show in Tajikistan in August (!!!?!?!?) (Mike Daisey is going over as a performer, and the show is apparently going to be a third in English, a third in Russian, and a third in Tajiki), and they will be taking care of her flights.  Exciting!
