Holy crap. How could I have missed. . .

Happy Birthday Twin D!   One day late.

I sang him happy birthday on the phone yesterday at 7:50 in the morning, when I got to work.

No more Polenbergs in their 20s. . . how did we get so old?

Various Congratulations!

Filed under: HA!, PolenBabble — Twin C @ 11:46 am

Congratulations to Twin D, who got hired at a new job - he starts in a few weeks.  In the meantime, we’re trying to squeak in another trip to AC.

Congratulations to Twin A, who is heading to Sundance tomorrow with the Graffiti Research Lab, to go rub elbows with the film making elite of the world, and hopefully blow some stuff up.  Small stuff, that won’t hurt anyone, but will be really cool to watch.  He may have some other exciting work news to share with us in the near future. . .

Congratulations to Twin B, who has passed the halfway mark for his first year of school.  Three semesters left!

Congratulations to Twin C, who got two job offers within 24 hours of posting his resume online.  Of course, one was “medical transcriptionist”, where he’d probably have to pay for a class to learn how exactly to do it, and then there’s no actual guarantee of work.  And the other was “financial advisor” AKA “those assholes who call you on the phone at work and badger you about what you’re doing with your 401K, which is especially awesome when you’re an admin and have no money to begin with”.

But hey, I’m marketable!

Fringe Benefits

I’ve been much more active lately in my search for a new job - not just talking about it, but actually did the work on my resume and put it up on the major websites,  and I should have an “informational interview” with a company shortly.  In the meantime, Twin D sent me something from his company, but it was an admin position, and I need to not be an admin anymore, so I thanked him, and said, “I’d only be interested in an admin position if it payed six figures.”

Here was his response:

I forgot to copy this part:

Salary:

  •    $1,000,000

Benefits:

  • 5 weeks paid vacation
  • New wardrobe
  • Handies every Friday

Clocking Out at. . .

Filed under: PolenBabble, Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 6:36 pm

Eleven hours.

I’ve been here since 6:55 for the big honking meeting, which went very smoothly for the most part, except for the horrible bitch who demanded a kosher meal and was really rude about it (if I had known about her, I could have done something, but I had no idea), the twenty extra name badges I had to consistently run back to my desk to make, usually two at a time, and the fact that the wireless mike died and no one told me until the meeting was over.

There’s a bunch of dinners at various restaurants, and the one I’ve decided to go to is four blocks away from the apartment - I have to run home now, rescue my laundry from the laudromat (who were supposed to deliver it on Saturday and totally fucked up, so hopefully it’s just waiting there for me instead), and then go.  The restaurant is one of those Brazilian places with the red and green discs on your table - turn it to green and they come up to you with trays of meat, and you just go into a massive meat rage until you’re full, then you turn it back to red.  It’s fun.

The Corporation rears its ugly head.

Just discovered two more blocked sites today - Facebook, which isn’t such a surprise, especially considering they banned MySpace months ago, but also BoingBoing.  BoingBoing????  It’s usually not obscene - just funny and interesting. . .

UPDATE: BoingBoing has become unblocked for the time being. . .

Little Bits of News

As I avoid doing all of the work I should be doing right now, a few fun things come to mind:

- I’ve made $300 in “free money” this week, and will likely make the same next week, for all the work I’ve been doing - most of it extra because of the two other managers I’m supporting, and also I just helped out an old admin friend of mine with a bunch of CDs she needed copied. . .

- The horrible religious group that set up camp in the Times Square subway station right near the stairway down to the 7 train, that had been there for months and months, handing out their bullshit Jack Chick hate filled publications and playing their bullshit hyper-Jesus hymns, and harrassing people who walked by, have FINALLY left.  I was seriously considering starting to enter complaints on the MTA website every day until they did something about it.

I did send in one complaint months ago, and their response was that there was nothing they could do, that the group had a right to be there.  I don’t think I made it clear in my complaint that it’s not like there were just a few people down there.  They actually had a number of tables set up with pamphlets and stands, and boxes everywhere, and big posters stuck to the wall telling me to repent now or go to hell, and smaller white posters with various lines of scripture printed on them also stuck to the wall (that has GOT to be illegal - it’ s not like I can run around the subway hanging signs.  They’d arrest me in five seconds.), and they never left, and there were people sleeping (definitely illegal - if you’re not going to let homeless people do it, there’s no way you should let religious nuts do it), and playing music (again, if you’re going to bust the street dancers, bust the zealots).

I guess they gave up their attempts to convert all the heathens in Sodom.  They should try Gommorah instead.  Much worse heathens over there.

- A friend of mine from college who I haven’t seen in 15 years will be in town this weekend, and we will hopefully be getting together.

- Sunday PSB and I are seeing Mike Daisey at the Public, then I’m off to a late Xmas Gift Swap party.  I have to figure out what I am going to regift. . .

What are YOU up to?

Classy!

Doesn’t it look like they’re about to jump into a pool?  But why jump into a pool with briefcases?  I hope they’re waterproof.
