Back from Bama

PSB and I were down in Mobile, Silverhill, and Orange Beach this weekend to see her lovely family - we had a great time, except for the part where we missed our connection due to bad weather and had to wait six hours for the only other plane they could get us on to go home.  Boooooooooooooooooo.

Among all of the great people I got to reconnect with/meet for the first time, I also got to see an old friend - Speedy!  Hopefully I’ll be sent a picture I can add to this post.

Maybe she went crazy after discovering that Lance Bass was gay.

My poor, shattered psyche.

I don’t know how I can survive knowing what I thought were truisms were all wrong, wrong, wrong.

BAH HUMBUG!!!!!!!!

As if I don’t have enough annoying crap to do today, one of my managers is making me design her a holiday e-card for her to send out to her team, after I spent a half hour in the card store finding holiday cards for her that were “tasteful and simple”.

She did give me two bottles of wine as a holiday present, but COME ON!  I’d rather poke my eyes out than be working on this thing.  I’m stealing google images and sticking them on and throwing some snowflakes on it and sending it to her.  She didn’t like my first one - she said it was too boring.  It probably was.  I have about as much interest as doing this as I have pouring hydrochloric acid down my pants.

My other manager gave me a nice new set of leather gloves that are cashmere lined - woo hoo!  I lost one of my leather gloves a few weeks ago, and recently bought a pair of street gloves that work pretty well, but the new ones are great.

Where’s the best present of all - the golden parachute???

Move Postponed. . .

Unfortunately Olga N. is having trouble with her new apartment, so we’re going to be moving later than we thought.  We’re now hoping for February 1, but it may be later than that.

I’ve already started saving boxes at work.  I haven’t started collecting AM New York and Metros yet.  Probably January 1st.

I worked with PSB and my friend L. the other night on my resume - she’s really good at building them, I think.  If you’re interested in seeing the new and improved version, shoot me an e-mail.  I welcome all comments.  I’m hoping to have it finalized for the new year and start getting it out.  March 1 is my goal for a new job.  The other Olga threatens to get me fired on March 1st if I’m not out by then.  I have no idea how she’d do it, but she’s pretty nefarious - she’d come up with something. . .

Two quotes from last night:

About ex-significant others ending things badly: “See, that’s what burning bridges is all about!”

About golf tournaments.  Really: “You can wait a long time for someone to come by your hole.”

Farewell, Dan.

Singer Dan Fogelberg, 56, dies of cancer.

“Same Old Lang Syne” was a childhood favorite, although I never remember hearing it upstate, only when we were down in Queens visiting my grandparents or my aunt and uncle.

The Best and The Worst of New York (Twin) C-ty

Wednesday night: after seeing a fantastic Rejection Show at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater, featuring Ophira Eisenberg and David Rees, I meet my favorite sexplorer at a gentlemen’s club where a holiday party for a magazine she writes for is being held.  Free Grey Goose and tonics and mostly nekkid ladies abound.  I also meet various people in the sex industry and the entertainment industry, including Lainie Speiser and some guy who used to be on Howard Stern.  We leave the club when the party ends as it’s too loud to talk, and head to another bar and drink and talk and laugh for hours.  I head home to go to sleep with PSB, who was at a Moth holiday party.

Thursday morning: I’m not hung over, but I might as well be.  Our tub refuses to drain.  And, there’s no hot water.

Thursday night: Our techie shows up for our show late - 20 minutes late.  Fortunately, it’s easy enough to switch the order of the plays around, so we go on third instead of second.  However, everyone is panicked for a good half hour.  Hopefully the Thursday curse on this play is now broken.

Later Thursday night: I have to get up at 6:20 a.m. Friday morning in order to get to work by 7:30 to run a web conference.  I have valerian tea, but was nervous that it wasn’t going to be enough to get me to conk out before midnight.  Jon L. comes to the rescue, and gives me a melatonin pill.  Melatonin + valerian = UNCONCIOUS!  Awesome.

Now: The web conference was four hours long, but went fine.  I have more work to do, but I can’t seem to concentrate on anything - I’m still pretty tired.  I’m also on my second large pumpkin spice latte of the day, but it’s not doing much.  And it seems a little unfair that I got here at 7:30 and according to company policy, the earliest I can leave is 4:00 p.m.  Oh well.  Enough time for a disco nap before my 9:00 show and then a holiday party. . .
