Happy Turkey Day!

Filed under: PolenBabble, Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 12:01 pm

Our office has very kindly decided to close at 2 pm today.

I get to run to Toys R Us to buy the Chanukah presents that were supposed to come in from Amazon but have not (they are sitting in some warehouse somewhere waiting to get put into a box). . .

Then off to pick up the most delicious cake in the universe made by - we love you Jen!!!!

And tomorrow, since I was unsuccessful at getting a ZipCar (note to self: reserve one NOW for next year) - we’ll be taking Metro North to the Polenberg ancestral home for a very crowded Thanksgiving - over 30 people!

Have a very happy holiday!

Ever want to depress yourself really quickly?

Read some of the comments after any sort of news about the country on Yahoo News.

It makes me want to never talk to anyone ever again.

Poor, poor hard drive. And poor, poor Twin C.

Filed under: PolenBabble, Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 12:27 am

My hard drive decided to take a trip to Crapsville on Monday. After a lot of internet consulting and some advice from Twins A and D, I picked up a new hard drive, got it installed, and then did my best to get the old hard drive to somehow come back to life long enough to get some data off of it (most importantly, a bunch of pictures of the kid, PSB’s trip to Tajikistan, her and my trip to Puerto Rico, etc. etc.). Unfortunately, and even with Twin A coming over today and trying almost every trick in the book, nothing has worked. Twin A has one more trick up his sleeve, involving putting the hard drive in the freezer, then quickly accessing it and grabbing whatever he can off of it. He claims it works. Don’t ask me. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that it does. I feel terrible for not having backed anything up. I was lucky enough to get almost all of my music and most of my documents from really old drives that I’ve kept - they both worked when I put them in USB connected case I have for them. . . A big thank you to Twin A for trying so hard in general, and helping me get back up and running with new drivers and stuff on the new hard drive.

The PolenMom is coming over today (since it’s Saturday already) to hang out with the polkies, and later I think I’m having dinner and drinks with a fellow kvetchnik. We will have fun, and kvetch! Oy, the kvetching!

Stalker Update

Filed under: Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 10:49 am

I have not been accepted as a friend by the one person, and the other person has yet to write me back.

However, this could possibly be due to the fact that not everyone is as completely addicted to email and the internet in general as I am. People don’t check their email every day, or every week for that matter. (That really really boggles my mind. Why wouldn’t you want to check your email? To me it’s like not checking your physical mailbox for snail mail. Don’t you want to see if you’ve gotten anything? And email is generally so much more fun than snail mail!)

Or, they think I’m creepy.

Or, which would hurt a lot more, they don’t remember me. . .

Stupid cold.

I’ve been sick for the past two weeks! That and trying to keep the amount of crying down to as little as possible (yeah yeah, I mean the baby, not me) has made it a little challenging. Poor PSB has been averaging three hours of sleep a night. Horrible! I’m getting between four and seven, depending on the crying factor, and how late I can manage to stay up while letting PSB sleep. . .

On a lighter note, I’ve finally played through Uncharted 2, which was really really super fun. I’m going to go back and find one thing that I didn’t find, then on to inFamous. I need to finish up Brutal Legend as well, and I sure have a whole lot of Demon’s Souls left. And the God of War III reviews have been absolutely stellar. I can’t wait!

Babywatch continues. . .

and nothing is going right here today at the office. As I just kvetched on Facebook, while I was in the middle of doing three different things in three different programs, my computer decided to randomly reboot, making me have to wait for it to come back up and running before starting everything over. I can’t look up information on various internal programs - they’re all not working. One of my coworkers is acting like a two year old because a reservation I correctly made for him does not list the exact room type he wants, and another hotel tried to put him in a room with a double bed. Perish the thought. Unless you’re having an orgy while on your business trip, and I guess anything is possible, what freaking difference does it make if you get two double beds or one king or queen? You’re a skinny man, you can fit in a double bed. I have better things to do than explain to you that hotels do not guarantee room type. I know this. I worked in hospitality for years. Fuckface.

PSB had some pre-contractions last night while watching Avatar. It might have been that PolenBaby #1 just wanted to ride on the back of a birdie. We will do our best to not have him sit on Hamilton.

Executive Incompetence

Filed under: Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 1:59 pm

I’m home sick today, but I’ve been given a way for me to check my email from home, via a SecurID. I checked in at 9:00 am, and again at 12:30 pm, thinking I couldn’t have missed much. Boy, was I wrong.

Last week I was asked to set up a meeting by a person I don’t support, for a bunch of people I don’t really work with, because one of my coworkers used to be part of the project. It was a teleconference and web meeting, with appropriate links and dial in information, that I distributed properly. The leader of the meeting and the two other people were sent all the proper leader codes separately in their own email, marked “important”.

At 10:00 am this morning, when the meeting was supposed to start, I get an email from the leader, as well as six of the attendees, asking why the teleconference hasn’t started. The leader is also asking where the leader codes are.

Oh, that’s funny, sir, because I SENT THEM TO YOU DAYS AGO. Maybe check your email? Did you think that maybe I might have already sent them to you, in an email marked “important”? I wasn’t supposed to run the meeting, just set it up, which I did. Now how about you open your freaking eyes and look at what I sent you?

It’s just so irritating when you make something so easy for someone, and they still mess it up, and then you’re the one who looks like they made a mistake.

Now I’m going back to the couch so the bird will stop yelling at me.

What a week.

Filed under: PolenBabble, Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 12:49 pm

I had to spend two days in Pennsylvania, a half hour out from Philadelphia, running a bunch of web meetings for some colleagues and some other people. It was about two hours of work spread over seventeen hours. It was mostly dreadfully boring, with a few moments of excitement, like when one presenter’s computer refused to stay connected to the web meeting, and another presenter’s Powerpoint refused to open. (The first issue was solved by emailing everyone the presentation, and the second issue was solved when I force closed Powerpoint in the task manager, which made it want to open again. I felt a little clever after solving issue number two. Just a little.)

I have 200 things to do and all I feel like doing is playing first person Tetris. Even if it makes me a little nauseous.

Yay three day weekend! I was hoping to meet Twin D in Atlantic City but I did not book a comp room in time, and they’ve all disappeared. It’s probably all for the better anyway. I’m going to find a table in NYC somewhere instead on Sunday night, since it’s unlikely we’ll have our normal Sunday night game with D being away. . .

Tonight I’ll be heading to Ikea with PSB to buy a few things for the Polenbaby, then meeting Axelrad for a quick drink, then heading out to the Village to see the Scientists of Industry play. I know the drummer. He’s pretty good.

Dear Coworker Who Is Annoying When I Can Hear Her But Otherwise Harmless,

Filed under: Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! — Twin C @ 12:40 pm

Why come to work if all you’re going to do is talk on the phone for four hours loudly in your vaguely irritating accent?

Fucking shut up and go home. I’m actually trying to do work.
